Fipronil with Permethrin, Topical
What is fipronil with permethrin, topical?
Fipronil with permethrin, topical (brand name Effitix®), is a medication used to treat and control fleas, ticks, and chewing lice in dogs and puppies 8 weeks of age and older and weighing more than 2.3 kg (5 lb). Fipronil with permethrin topical is also labeled for repelling biting flies and for repelling and killing mosquitoes. It may also be used as a treatment of sarcoptic mange in dogs.
Never use in rabbits, cats, or other small mammals as this medication is highly toxic to those species.
It may be used off label (extra label) to treat other conditions in dogs. Many drugs are commonly prescribed for off-label use in veterinary medicine. “Off label” means the drug is being used in a way that has not been reviewed or approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) or Health Canada. In these instances, follow your veterinarian’s directions and cautions very carefully, as they may be significantly different from those on the label.
